Ryhope CW beat Billingham Synthonia away from home on penalties to qualify for the third round of the Northern League Cup, following a 1-1 draw.
This is the final cup that Colliery Welfare remain in, meaning they were well up for a positive result, however the Division Two side proved to be no pushovers.
The game kicked off to a rough start for Ryhope, the hom eside had chances from long range.
Ryhope’s first chance came in the fourth minute as Bird had a solid chance one-on-one that was cleverly saved by the keeper.
Billingham Synthonia had several chances in the first-half and in 42nd minute of the game the home side took the lead, Kallum Hannah scored the opener when he sent the ball to the net after a run through Ryhope’s defence.
Colliery Welfare headed into the break a goal down.
The Second half began with Ryhope taking charge playing very differently to the first half. In the 48th minute Micky Rae evened the Score when he connected with a Shaun Pickford cross to the back post to tap in.
In the 55th minute Jack Walker Had a chance to score Ryhope’s second goal, somehow hitting the bar from close range.
Around the 66th minute Ryhope had a double substitution having had James Ellis come on for Nicky Kane and Adam Cocks for Elliot woods.
Another chance rose when Micky Rae Sent a powerful shot straight that was tipped onto the bar in the 76th minute.
The home side had some decent chances in the last minutes of the game, including an absolute sitter that was blazed over the bar, but the full time whistle was blown 1-1.
The game went through a thrilling penalty shootout which saw Ryhope CW come out victorious 4-3 after a great Performance by Jonny Ball.
